Description:
Abstract:
This data set contains point, line, and polygon features of base map information for Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Walworth, Washington, and Waukesha Counties in Southeastern Wisconsin. The base map features include U.S. Public Land Survey System geometry, civil division boundaries, transportation and water-related features, public land areas, and associated text. The data set also includes map collars and legend features and text to facilitate cartographic production of reference maps. The base map features were originally prepared from 1:24,000 scale USGS topographic maps, aerial photography, and other source materials, and are periodically updated from recent aerial photos and related information. The data set is current as of 1990 and is partially current as of 1995.
Purpose:
This data set was collected to provide reference map information for use in regional planning programs in Southeastern Wisconsin.

Access_Constraints:
There are no legal prerequisites for accessing this data set. Potential users should contact the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission GIS Division.
Use_Constraints:
This data set was prepared from USGS topographic maps, aerial photography, and other reference materials, and is partially current as of 1995. The base maps may not reflect current conditions. Site investigation or other research may be necessary to determine current location and existence of all features (such as roads, municipal boundaries, park locations, and water features) included in the base map data set.

2.  Data_Quality_Information:

Logical_Consistency_Report:
The features in this data set were collected by board digitization of hardcopy maps compiled from 1:24,000 scale USGS topographic maps and other map source materials. The features were verified with software routines to insure completeness and integrity of lines and areas. The data set contains lines that intersect where intended, there are no lines that are entered twice, there are no overshoots or undershoots, and all areas are completely described. The area features are topologically structured polygon data with nodes at all intersections.
Completeness_Report:
This data set was compiled in hardcopy form by the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission Cartography Division and digitized by the Commission's GIS Division. To the best knowledge of the Commission GIS Division, this data set includes all of the intended features digitized from the source hardcopy base maps.
Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report:
This data set was derived from hardcopy USGS topographic maps that were prepared to meet National Map Accuracy Standards for one-inch equals 2,000 feet scale mapping. Therefore, ninety percent or more of all well-defined planimetric features in this data set are within 40 feet of their true position.

5.  Entity_and_Attribute_Information:

Overview_Description:
Entity_and_Attribute_Overview:
This data set consists of a set of digital map files covering the seven counties in the Southeastern Wisconsin Region. The files are organized to cover entire counties or portions of counties, including a one-mile buffer area surrounding each county. The digital map files for each county are organized according to the following file naming convention and contain the following categories of features:

CG file: control geometry vector features; CD file: civil division vector features; PH file: public land holding vector features; TR file: transportation related vector features; WL file: water line vector features; WR file: water related vector features; MS file: mapsheet vector features; TX_T file: base map text features; MS_T file: mapsheet text features.

The vector features contained in the files include points, lines, and areas. The digital map files contain vector features in ESRI ArcView shapefile format and text features in AutoCAD DWG format. All files consist of graphic map features only and do not contain attributes at this time.

Entity_and_Attribute_Detail_Citation:
Detailed information about the features included in this data set are contained in a document entitled "Regional Base Map Data Dictionary of Arc/Node Features and Text Features" prepared by the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission GIS Division.
