Description:
Abstract:
This data set contains polygon features of civil division areas for the municipalities in the seven-county Southeastern Wisconsin Region. The polygon features were delineated and extracted from digital and hardcopy land use maps which were originally prepared from 1"=400' scale aerial photographs. Municipal boundaries were also obtained from other reference materials, such as Wisconsin Department of Transportation road plats. The data set is current for the years 1980, 1990, 1995, and 2000. The civil division polygons are identified according to SEWRPC's three-digit municipality identification code.
Purpose:
This data set was collected to provide an inventory of municipal areas in Southeastern Wisconsin and to be used for broad regional planning purposes.

This data set was prepared from land use maps and other source materials. The most recent inventory may not reflect current municipal boundaries.

2.  Data_Quality_Information:

Logical_Consistency_Report:
The polygon features in this data set were collected by extraction of boundaries from digital land use inventories and board digitization of information collected from other sources of municipal boundaries. The features were verified with software routines to insure completeness and integrity of lines and areas. The data set contains lines that intersect where intended, there are no lines that are entered twice, there are no overshoots or undershoots, and all areas are completely described. The area features are topologically structured polygon data with nodes at all intersections.
Completeness_Report:
This data set was delineated by the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission Land Use Division and digitized by the Commission's GIS Division. The civil division polygons are identified according to SEWRPC's three-digit municipality identification code. To the best knowledge of the Commission GIS Division, this data set includes all of the intended features digitized from the source digital and hardcopy maps and other source materials.
Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report:
This data set was collected from digital and hardcopy land use maps that were prepared to meet National Map Accuracy Standards for one-inch equals 400 feet scale mapping. Therefore, ninety percent or more of all well-defined planimetric features in this data set are within 13.3 feet of their true position.

5.  Entity_and_Attribute_Information:

Overview_Description:
Entity_and_Attribute_Overview:
This data set consists of a set of inventories collected for the years 1980, 1990, 1995, and 2000. The inventory for each year is contained in a single digital map file that covers the entire seven-county region. The digital files contain municipal boundary features, extracted from digital and hardcopy land use maps and/or delineated and digitized from other source materials. The civil division polygons are identified by a tag or label according to SEWRPC's three-digit municipality identification code. The digital map files are in ESRI coverage and shapefile format. All files consist of graphic map features only and do not contain attributes at this time.
Entity_and_Attribute_Detail_Citation:
An explanation of the three-digit codes used to identify the civil division polygons is contained in a list entitled "Civil Division Codes" prepared by the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission Land Use Division.
