Description:
Abstract:
This data set consists of digital orthophoto images obtained from 1:20,000 scale black-and-white aerial photography acquired in the spring of 1995. Each image nominally covers four U.S. Public Land Survey System sections, for a total of 703 digital image files in the data set. The pixel resolution of the imagery is two feet on the ground. The files are in TIFF format.
Purpose:
This data set was collected to provide an inventory of orthophoto images of Southeastern Wisconsin and to be used for broad regional planning purposes.

Access_Constraints:
There are no legal prerequisites for accessing this data set. Potential users should contact the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission GIS Division.
Use_Constraints:
The orthophotography in this data set was acquired in the spring of 1995 and may not reflect current ground conditions.

2.  Data_Quality_Information:

Logical_Consistency_Report:
This raster data set contains pixels with values that represent relative brightness. Each pixel represents two feet on the ground. The orthophoto images were reviewed for positional accuracy by comparison of the imagery with ground survey control features (section and quarter-section corners of the U.S. Public Land Survey System).
Completeness_Report:
The digital orthophoto images in this data set cover the entirety of Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Walworth, Washington, and Waukesha Counties, and small portions of Dodge, Jefferson, and Rock Counties in Wisconsin.
Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report:
This data set was prepared to meet National Map Accuracy Standards for 1:4800 scale mapping. The resolution of each pixel in the raster files is two feet on the ground. Therefore, ninety percent or more of all clearly-defined planimetric features visible in the imagery are within approximately 15 feet of their true position on the ground.

5.  Entity_and_Attribute_Information:

Overview_Description:
Entity_and_Attribute_Overview:
This data set consists of a set of 703 black-and-white orthophoto images, with each image covering four U.S. Public Land Survey System sections. Each digital raster image file is approximately 32 megabytes in size, and is formatted in standard "TIFF" tagged image file format. The pixel resolution of the images is two feet on the ground. The orthophoto files are named according to the U.S. Public Land Survey Syatem township, range, and four-section area covered by the image. In addition, a number of ancillary digital files are available that complement the orthophoto image files. These include: 1) a generic ASCII-format text file containing the State Plane coordinates of the extent of the image (".bnd" file extension); 2) an ESRI-format world file containing the coordinate information used to display and register the image in ESRI software (".tfw" file extension); 3) a GenaMap-format registration file containing the coordinate information required to display the image in GenaMap software (".IF" file extension); 4) a symbolized vector and text file containing U.S. Public Land Survey System section and quarter-section corners and lines and map legend and title information in MicroStation format (".dgn" file extension); and 4) a text resource file containing font information for display of the vector and text file in MicroStation format ("SEW.rsc" file name).
Entity_and_Attribute_Detail_Citation:
Additional information about the orthophoto images and ancillary files is contained in the one-page document entitled "Digital Orthophoto File Naming Convention" available from the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission GIS Division.
